Wonderful Small Businesses… a few of my favourites!

So for my first proper blog post I thought I would introduce you to a few of my favourite small businesses. These will be ones that I have bought from recently or who I have products from that I love and use all the time! I’m also going to stick to businesses who are local to me, these businesses are all from in and around Surrey.

Handcrafted Notebooks is run by the wonderful Nicky. I’ve bought countless notebooks from Nicky as gifts, as they are just so beautiful and all made from scratch. However I have a crazy number of notebooks so have never treated myself to one personally! I make the letters that go on the front of her Initial Notebooks so she thought of me when she had a notebook that had a little flaw which she couldn’t sell. It is beautifully made and has actually become my planning notebook for Brown Paper Festival! I love it and will definitely buy myself more in the future…

Ionna Marie Designs creates stylish, modern prints, stationary and greetings cards. I’ve been building a little collection of greetings cards to display as art… I have limited wall space so little cards mean I can support and appreciate multiple businesses! I spotted a couple of Jean’s designs during the first Black Pound Day and couldn’t resist buying them… I particularly love the wonderfully stylish lady in the incredible shoes!!

Mindful Macramé does what it says on the tin! Jane has created a business based around Macramé and the mindfulness you can achieve through learning it. She kindly gifted me the video tutorial from her kit and I spent an afternoon learning the beautiful craft. It’s genuinely such a lovely craft that I thoroughly recommend. Pick up one of Jane’s kits which has everything you need to get started!

Tipperley Hill is run by Roz and Abi, between them they create the most fancy art ! There are two sides to their business … quirky animals with fun quotes and florals that are so beautiful. I have bought a few of their cards featuring funny animals (they all wear funky clothes!). I can’t show you all the ones I bought as they are earmarked for people but I would urge you to go and check them out … there are just too many that I want !!

Ruths Little Kitchen is one of my favourite small businesses and such a lovely person! At the beginning of lockdown I got a sourdough starter and jumped into the world of baking sourdough. A few weeks later it started smelling funny so I quickly got in touch with Ruth who gave me so much advice and taught me how to make my first successful sourdough loaf! She’s done countless live videos encouraging and teaching people how to cook during lockdown and has continued to bake delicious things for her customers … amazing !

Creations by Hollie is a super new start up but Hollie has already achieved so much. Her resin pieces are so beautifully made, she takes amazing photos and has already become really popular! I’m so proud of her and bought one of her initial keyrings which I really love … they make cute gifts for loved ones (as well as yourself!)

Cloth and Candy is another of my favourites … I am a complete fabric addict so couldn’t not put a fabric shop in this list! Fuz sells the most beautiful selection of haberdashery, From trims to fabrics there is always something you need. I’ve bought some amazing fabrics from Fuz (including the Rifle Paper Co. fabric that I made a cute peplum top from!) and it helps that she is one of the most lovely people too … what more could you want!?

I can’t wait to share even more wonderful small businesses with you … that’s what I hope Brown Paper Festival will be. Somewhere that you can come and find amazing brands to shop with whilst supporting local and buying handmade… so stick around if that sounds like something you’d like !
